Blackhawks Recall Teravainen, Morin While Placing Kane On Long-Term IR
(CBS) The Blackhawks have recalled forwards Teuvo Teravainen and Jeremy Morin while placing injured forward Patrick Kane on the long-term IR, the team announced Friday morning.
The addition of Teravainen has been long speculated, and many believe the 19-year-old Finnish will provide Chicago with a needed offensive spark. Teravainen was the team's first-round selection in the 2012 draft, and he recently finished his season with Jokerit in Finland, where he scored 44 points (nine goals, 35 assists) in 49 games.
In elite playmaker Teravainen, the Blackhawks are adding one of the top players in the world not playing in the NHL. There figures to be an adjustment to the smaller North American ice and the NHL game for him, but he will almost certainly be an upgrade from any second-line center the Hawks have used this season.
Kane's move to the long-term IR was the logical one after he suffered a lower leg injury in Wednesday's game against the Blues that is expected to keep him out about three weeks. By placing Kane on long-term IR, the Blackhawks have freed themselves of his $6.3 million cap hit, allowing them to sign 22-year-old forward Matt Carey yesterday and recall Morin and Tervainen. However, by placing Kane on the long-term IR, they've ended his regular season. Kane is not eligible to return to the lineup until the playoffs begin. The rule states that a player on the long-term IR must miss 24 days and 10 games."
Morin, 22, ranked second on the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL with 47 points in 47 games this season.
