Blackhawks Promote McDonough To President And CEO

CHICAGO (CBS) The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that their adding the title of Chief Executive Officer to current Team President John McDonough.

"John has shown unprecedented leadership, boundless energy and a tireless ability to move the Blackhawks forward since he took over operations for the organization in 2007," Chairman Rocky Wirtz said in a statement. "It is only appropriate that we add CEO to his title as the direction of this franchise continues to strive for excellence."

Under McDonough's guidance, the Blackhawks welcomed back some of the franchise's greatest players, brought the 2009 Winter Classic to Wrigley Field and won the 2010 Stanley Cup. McDonough instituted what Forbes.com called "The Greatest Sports-Business Turnaround Ever."

"I feel that our franchise has made steady progress over the past four seasons, but we will always be motivated by our quest for consistent excellence," McDonough said. "It is an honor to be a part of the Blackhawks franchise and I appreciate the confidence that Rocky Wirtz has demonstrated in me."

The United Center has seen capacity crowds for last 146 consecutive Blackhawks games, and the team has increased their season ticketholder base from 3,400 to over 14,000.
