Blackhawks' Morin And Leddy Will Defend Gold Medal
In last year's Olympic games, the Chicago Blackhawks were on full display. While the next Olympics aren't for some time, the Blackhawks will remain well represented in International play.
The Team USA Junior team will look to defend its gold medal in this year's IIHF World Junior Championship. Last year, it was Team USA who went into Canada and beat the host country on their own ice.
This year, the Americans will have to fight off a Canadian squad looking to do the same. The tournament begins Sunday in Buffalo, N.Y.
Two of the Blackhawks most promising prospects will be among those players looking to defend the gold medal. Jeremy Morin and Nick Leddy were announced as part this year's 22-member team.
Morin and Leddy are two of the three players on the roster with NHL experience. Leddy started the season with the Blackhawks before being sent down to the team's AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.
Morin, on the other hand, has spent most of the season shuffling between Chicago and Rockford.
Both players are also somewhat recent additions to the Blackhawks organization. Leddy, a defenseman, was acquired in the trade that sent Cam Barker to the Minnesota Wild. Morin, a forward, was acquired in perhaps the biggest trade for the Blackhawks over the offseason. Morin came to Chicago in the trade that sent Dustin Byfuglien, Ben Eager and Brent Sopel to the Atlanta Thrashers.
