Blackhawks Fans Crowd United Center, Even With Cloud Over Patrick Kane
(CBS) – Fans filled the United Center Monday as the Blackhawks hit the ice in Chicago for the first time since winning their latest Stanley Cup.
Fans say they're excited about the new season, but they're also talking about the new information that came out over the weekend about the rape investigation that has mired star player Patrick Kane.
CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports big crowds turned out for the annual training camp festival.
Among the developments in the investigation of Kane is news published over the weekend that DNA tests of evidence taken from a rape kit showed no traces on the alleged victim's genital areas or undergarments. A woman claims Kane raped her in early August at the athlete's upstate New York home.
"It doesn't make the case,"CBS 2 legal analyst Irv Miller says. "It doesn't break the case. It's a neutral.
"The fact that DNA is not there doesn't mean a rape didn't occur. It doesn't mean that sex didn't occur."
The Buffalo News also reported DNA was found on the woman's shoulder and in her fingernails.
Kane has denied any wrongdoing and believes he will be cleared.
"I still think it's too early,"one fan tells Tellez. "I want to let it all play out and see exactly what's fact and what's fiction."
Kane and some other Blackhawks superstars didn't take the ice Monday.
