Blackhawks Defenseman Brent Seabrook Suffers Upper-Body Injury
By Chris Emma--
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As the Blackhawks weather the absences of Jonathan Toews and Corey Crawford with the extra efforts of their defensemen, the last thing they needed was another loss. Then came a bad break in the second period of Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Coyotes, with Brent Seabrook suffering an upper-body injury.
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville stated that Seabrook would be re-evaluated Wednesday. When asked if Seabrook's absence was a precautionary measure, Quenneville said that the defenseman wasn't able to return. He was seen outside the dressing room after the game.
Seabrook was checked into the boards by Coyotes forward Jordan Martinook. He remained down briefly before skating off to the bench and heading to the Blackhawks' dressing room. At the time of the injury, Chicago had a 3-0 lead over Arizona.
The Blackhawks are playing without Toews, who's dealing with an upper-body injury, and Crawford, who had an emergency appendectomy this weekend. Backup Scott Darling earned his third career shutout in Tuesday's game, stopping 22 shots in the effort.
Quenneville will offer an update on Seabrook's status Thursday, when the team is scheduled to hold its next practice and media availability.
