Blackhawks' Crawford Not Among Calder Finalists
Chicago Blackhawks rookie goalie Corey Crawford wasn't among the finalists for the NHL's Calder Trophy, given annually to the league's best rookie.
The 26-year old Crawford ended the regular season with a 33-18-6 record (14th most wins of all goalies), a 2.30 goals agaisnt average (7th best among all goalies) and a .917 save percentage (16th among all NHL goalies).
Crawford tied Blackhawks rookie record with eight straight wins from Feb. 20 - March 5 and compiled a 176:09 shutout streak from Jan. 7-15, the longest by a Blackhawks netminder since Tony Esposito from Jan. 16-30, 1972. His 33 wins were the most by a Blackhawks goalie since since 2001, and no Chicago goalie has had more wins since Eddie Belfour had 37 during the 1993-94 season.
Crawford kept the Blackhawks in games and in the playoff race for much of the season, especially heading down the stretch.
Michael Grabner (34 G, 18 A) of the New York Islanders, Logan Couture (32 G, 24 A) of the San Jose Sharks and Jeff Skinner (31 G, 32 A) of the Carolina Hurricanes were the finalists.
The last Blackhawk to win the Calder Trophy was Patrick Kane in 2008, edging out fellow Blackhawk Jonathan Toews.
