Blackhawks And Seabrook Agree To Five-Year Contract
The Chicago Blackhawks and defenseman Brent Seabrook have agreed to a five-year contract extension.
"Brent is a very important member of our organization and we are looking forward to him being part of a core group that will be a contender for many years to come," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said. "We have been fortunate to have Brent as part of our family since he was a teenager and we are proud to be able to announce this news today."
Seabrook was drafted by the Blackhawks as the 14th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has come through the Blackhawks' system with fellow defenseman Duncan Keith.
"The Blackhawks are the only organization I've ever played for, and I've been a part of something very special in Chicago over the last six seasons," Seabrook said. "I'm excited to continue being a part of this group, playing in the United Center and making our fans proud."
The exact terms of the contract haven't been released, but is rumored to be in the $30 million range.
With the signing, the Blackhawks have ensured themselves of having a strong defensive lineup for years to come. Last season the team locked up Keith and Niklas Hjalmarsson. They also have Brian Campbell and Nick Leddy under contract. Campbell is signed through the 2015-16 season and Leddy will become a restricted free agent after the 2012-13 season.
