Blackhawks Activate Defenseman Duncan Keith From Long-Term IR
(CBS) The Blackhawks are getting some defensive reinforcement.
Chicago on Friday activated All-Star defenseman Duncan Keith from long-term injured reserve, and he'll play Saturday at St. Louis, coach Joel Quenneville told reporters. Keith has been out since having right knee surgery on Oct. 20 to repair a meniscus tear.
Keith, 32, was originally expected to be out four to six weeks. He'll return a few days shy of the four-week mark. The Blackhawks will monitor his minutes initially.
Keith has played in six games this season, recording two assists. He earned the Conn Smythe Award last season for his quality play in leading the Blackhawks to their third Stanley Cup title in six seasons.
In a corresponding move, the Blackhawks sent defenseman Viktor Svedberg to AHL Rockford.
Also on Friday, the Blackhawks activated defenseman Michal Rozsival from the long-term IR. He's expected to play Saturday as well.
