Black Friday Deals That Are Worth The Wait
CHICAGO (CBS) - There's just two more days till Black Friday. Retailers are offering thousands of bargains, but which ones are worth it? CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker has suggestions from the experts.
Shoppers have already had a sneak preview of the Black Friday ads so they know what they want.
"The flat screen TV," said Lequesha Harris.
Marcus Washington said, "For me, it would be the Xbox 360."
Retailers are discounting thousands of products. But which ones are worth rising before dawn, braving the cold and battling the crowds?
Brent Shelton has the answer. He's the marketing director for FatWallet.com. His team of shopping experts has done the homework so you won't have to.
"We can compare retailer to retailer, specifics like technical specifications, if there's a coupon code, if there's free shipping attached to the deal, so we're able to say this is the absolute lowest price," said Shelton.
Making the list: a $549 42-inch Zenith TV at Kmart, discounted to $399. Best Buy will attract attention with its $449 Toshiba laptop on sale for $189.
Target scores with external hard drives that cost as much as $139, but will go for $69 on Black Friday. Sears will have a $399 Dyson vacuum cleaner on sale for $219.
"When there's a price drop that significantly, then it's obviously a good deal for probably almost anyone," said Shelton.
There's more: Ace is offering a $159 DeWalt drill kit for $99. Wal-Mart expects shoppers to line up early for its Blu-ray player, originally $118 but on sale Friday for $69. And its 32-inch LCD Emerson TV which will drop from $328 to $198.
"Quantities vary," said Al Rivera, a Wal-Mart store manager. "I have one set that I'll have 109 of. I have another one that I'll just have 22 of."
With numbers like that, you can see why people have to line up early -- and why many will be disappointed.
Here's a couple of things you need to remember: you cannot buy the door buster deals online, you have to go to the store.
And the deep discounts on some items are AFTER the rebates, so make sure you read the fine print.
