Snow chance Wednesday night in Chicago; big temperature swings in the days ahead
CHICAGO (CBS) — Snow showers return overnight, with a warming trend to follow for the end of the work week for the Chicago area.
Clouds thicken up Wednesday night ahead of the next weather-maker, which will bring Chicago scattered snow showers until daybreak Thursday. Light fluffy snowflakes are expected, with lows in the teens feeling like the single digits. A dusting of snow is possible during the overnight while a lot of us are sleeping.
Thursday highs return in the middle 30s with passing flurries.
Friday even warmer temperatures return to the forecast with highs near 40 degrees. A wintry mix rolls through the area late Friday into Saturday.
By Sunday a polar plunge settles in. The coldest air of the season will be locked in place for the start of next week. Sunday a high of 12 with falling temperatures. Monday a high of 6. Tuesday a high of 11, with overnight lows dipping sub-zero Sunday night and Monday night.
The wind chills will range from -10 to -25 during that long stretch of cold weather. Due to the dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills a string of Alert Days have been issued for next week.
