Bishop Ford Freeway Shut Down After Tanker Flips Over, Prompts Hazmat Response

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A section of the Bishop Ford Freeway was closed in both directions Monday afternoon after a truck flipped over.

The Fire Department was called to the Bishop Ford at 130th Street Monday afternoon, after a tanker truck with corrosive material flipped over. The driver lost control on the southbound entrance ramp at 130th Street, the Fire Department said.

The Fire Department sent a chemical foam unit to the scene. But the Fire Department reported the tanker did not leak, and was successfully lifted upright.

By 5 p.m., the Bishop Ford was closed in both directions at the scene. Inbound traffic was being forced off at Sibley Boulevard, outbound traffic at 115th Street.

The expressway was expected to reopen after the truck was moved.

The driver of the tanker was injured, the Fire Department said.
