Bishop Ford Closed After Steel Coils Fall On Road
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Traffic came to a standstill on the outbound Bishop-Ford Freeway Thursday afternoon after two steel coils broke free from a semi and fell on the roadway, causing several other vehicles to crash.
Illinois State Police said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. at 154th Street on the Bishop Ford. Several vehicles struck the coils after they fell on the roadway.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports that all lanes of the outbound Bishop Ford were closed between Sibley and 159th after the crash and traffic backed up as far as the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Many drivers had exited their vehicles to find out what the problem was as they waited for the traffic jam to clear. One lane of traffic was reopened at about 6:10 p.m.
No one was seriously injured in the crash.
