Bill Carmody Out At Northwestern

UNITED CENTER (CBS) Bill Carmody is officially out at Northwestern, ending a 13-year run that did not include any NCAA Tournament berths.
The Wildcats finished just 13-19 this season after their roster was ravaged by injuries and a key season-long suspension.
After Northwestern's loss to Iowa Thursday night in the Big Ten Tournament, Carmody admitted his team has fallen short of its goals in recent seasons, but also expressed frustration with the lack of facilities in Evanston.
"Everyone's goal is to get into the NCAA Tournament and we haven't been able to accomplish that. In 100 years, we haven't been able to accomplish that," Carmody said. "There's not that much different now about what Northwestern offers than there was when Kevin O'Neill was here, and Ricky Byrdsong and Bill Foster.
"Everyone knows, people have talked about it, it's sort of like an arms race so the gap might be widening that way."
While Carmody's frustrations are valid, Northwestern athletics director Jim Phillips was still in a position where change needed to be made, as Carmody's record at NU was just 192-210.
Now Phillips' challenge will be to find a quality head coach willing to take over a program with below-average facilities in a major conference. Keep an eye on Duke assistant Chris Collins, who will undoubtedly be a candidate.
