Bike Cops Nab Thief Who Knocked Over Woman On Crutches
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A thief accused of knocking over a woman on crutches and then stealing her cell phone during a Tuesday evening robbery in the Loop is expected in court Wednesday morning, police said.
Clayton Jones, 23, was arrested by Chicago bicycle police after a concerned citizen flagged officers down following the robbery in the 100 block of North State Street, police said early Wednesday in a release.
Police said Jones approached the robbery victim, a 39-year-old woman on crutches who was trying to hail a cab, and made a forceful grab for her cell phone about 5 p.m.
In the process, Jones knocked the woman off a curb and then wrestled the cell phone from her hand before trying to flee, police said.
After bicycle police tracked Jones down, the woman identified him as her attacker, police said.
Jones, of the 7200 block of South Luella Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, was charged with one felony count of robbery, police said.
Police recovered a cell phone belonging to the victim, who declined immediate medical attention at the scene, police said.
