Biggs: Emery Would Make Sense As Bears GM
(WSCR) Though the Bears have yet to make a decision on their new general manager, one candidate appears to have strong ties to the organization.
Phil Emery, who is currently the Chiefs director of college scouting, worked as an area scout for the Bears for six years under former GM Jerry Angelo. He also worked under Tim Ruskell, the Bears director of player personnel, as the Falcons college scouting director.
"If Emery was hired, not only would he be familiar with Tim Ruskell, in the bigger picture, I think he'd be familiar with everyone (at Halas Hall,)" Brad Biggs of the National Football Post and Chicago Tribune told The Mully and Hanley Show. "He worked with most of the area scouts that the Bears have, so there'd be some familiarity there. I think that's important because when you sit down at a draft table and you're going to start talking about prospects and what you want to do. If you don't know the scouts that you're meeting with, you're not going to know exactly what they mean when they're talking about."

The Bears have yet to tip their hand in their GM search, but Biggs thinks a decision as to what's next could come shortly.
"I think it's reached the point here now where they've either got to move on the thing or either announce a second round of interviews, which wouldn't surprise me," he said. "I don't think that would be a bad idea. In a situation like this, you need to make certain that you're comfortable and you believe in the individual you're hiring."
