Biggs: Don't Expect Bears To Sign New Starter

(WSCR) With reports surfacing that Jay Cutler could be lost for the rest of the regular season with a broken thumb, the Bears need to move quickly in their back up plans.

Back up quarterback Caleb Hanie figures to be the guy, and Brad Biggs of The National Football Post and Chicago Tribune doesn't think the Bears will bring in anyone else to be their new starter.

"Caleb Hanie is going to have to step in," Biggs told The Mully and Haley Show. "A lot of people are on Twitter (saying), 'Can they sign this guy or go get that guy?' You can't bring a player off the street to play quarterback in the National Football League in the middle of the season and expect anything to work right. Hanie is the next guy up."

While the severity of the injury remains unknown, Biggs said Cutler will likely be lost until at least the playoffs.

"From what I'm hearing, the injury is serious enough for him to have to miss a significant period of time, meaning probably the remainder of the regular season or darn close to it," Biggs said. "Let's just assume it's the remainder of the regular season for right now. That's relatively serious in my book."
