Biggs: 'Business Isn't Stopping For Matt Forte'
(WSCR) On Wednesday, the Bears paid yet another player before Matt Forte.
Forte, who the Bears have slapped the franchise tag on, has been unable to come to terms on a long-term contract. Lance Briggs' recent extension is even more proof that the Bears are willing to play hard ball with the Pro Bowl running back.
"Business isn't stopping for Matt Forte and the Bears have made that clear," Brad Biggs of the National Football Post and Chicago Tribune told The Mully and Hanley Show.

"I think it's proof that the offseason is not stopping for Matt Forte. The sides clearly haven't been able to discover any common ground. So the Bears said, 'OK, we're going to go on about our business.' The question you have to consider here is, at some point, will the resources be allocated? Will the budget, will the salary room be taken up? Listen, Forte is carving up $7.7 million of the salary cap right now, which is the value of the franchise tag. That's a lot of room for Matt Forte, but when you talk about a big-time contract, you'll probably need a little bit more than that. It depends on how you structure the deal."
A positive note for the Bears in all of this was they were able to lock Briggs down for an extra year at a relatively inexpensive rate.
"The Bears found a cost-effective way to appease a guy who has been to seven straight Pro Bowls and get him under contract for an additional year in 2014 when he'll be 34 years old," Briggs said.
