Biggs: Bears Stacking Up Against '06 Super Bowl Team
(WSCR) It's been five long seasons since the Bears have sniffed the Super Bowl.
In 2006, the Bears compiled a 13-3 regular season record before falling to the Colts in Super Bowl XLI. With an improved offense and Pro Bowl-caliber defense, one Bears expert said the 2012 Bears would stack up well against the 2006 Bears.
"No one is more confident than the head coach," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune told The Mully and Hanley Show. "In talking to him about that, he was pretty candid. He said when you break it down by position groups, you can compare it to the '06 team.

"That's maybe the best team that they've had there. I think it would be interesting to stack this team up against the '06 one. All we're talking about is on paper right now. Yes, that '06 team had a better offensive line, no question about it, they also had a younger defense, but that '06 team, with the exception of the first month of the season, didn't really scare anyone offensively. That's what (Lovie) is looking at."
Biggs' comments come in the wake of Smith admitting he thought this team was better than last season's team that compiled a 7-3 record before injuries derailed the season.
''I'd say we're a better football team,'' Smith said. ''I'm talking about the 53-man roster, even the 61-man roster with the practice squad. We have some pretty good training-camp battles, too, going on. I feel like we have an idea
of what direction we're going in.''
