Biggs: Bears Have To Operate As If Cutler's Not Playing
(WSCR) Jay Cutler's status for Monday's matchup against the 49ers remains uncertain.
As the quarterback attempts to come back from a concussion suffered in Sunday's loss to the Texans, one Bears expert said the team needs to prepare as if back-up quarterback Jason Campbell will be the starter.
"I think until (Cutler's) cleared, the Bears have to operate that way, like they're expecting not to have him available," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune and National Football Post told The Mully and Hanley Show. "That's for the foreseeable future. Now, could he come back and play in this game? Sure, Alex Smith was cleared yesterday for non-contact drills. So, he'll throw a black jersey on - that's the color the 49ers use for non-contact. He participated in parts of the 49ers practice yesterday. The Bears chose not to practice yesterday, that's a schedule that Lovie has kind of maintained all along for when they're preparing for a Monday night game. Maybe we'll get some indication with Jay today: Has he been cleared for non-contact? Has he not been cleared for non-contact? So that would kind of clear that situation up a little bit, but I think you have to operate right now like he's not playing and then hope for a pleasant surprise."

Even if Cutler is ready for the game, Biggs thinks the Bears are facing the most physical defense they've seen all season.
"They've got a lot of fine players and linebackers across the board," Biggs said. "Last year, they knocked three quarterbacks out of games and five running backs, which are kind of staggering totals. ... They really bring the lumber and the Bears have got to be aware of that. I thought the Texans were about as physical a defense as the Bears had seen to date. I think the 49ers take it to the next level."
