Big Z to Return…and Stay for a While
Carlos Zambrano will rejoin the Cubs on Thursday in Denver as the team will activate him for their three game weekend series against the Colorado Rockies.
With Derrek Lee invoking the "10 and 5" rule in his contract today to stay with the Cubs, he and Zambrano will be teammates again, which he does not foresee as a problem.
"It will be good to put it behind us," said Derrek Lee. "I really don't think it will be a big issue."
With the drama of the previous months incident considered in the past by both players and the team, the major issue that looms is Zambrano's future with the club. Two years remain on his contract worth nearly $35 million. With few suitors willing to take on his salary, their only option currently is to keep him.
It will be very tough to trade him considering his clubhouse history and the amount of money he is making, not to mention his bad play on the field. For all those expecting Zambrano to be off the Cubs next season, or for them to trade him this season keep dreaming.
The only Cubs option is to hope Carlos Zambrano returns to 2007 from where he won 18 games. If not, eating another bad contract is inevitable.
