Big John Lit Up For Japan
CHICAGO (WBBM/CBS) -- The lights that illuminate the crest of the John Hancock Center are bedecked in red and white, in a push to raise awareness of relief efforts for Japan.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, major skyscrapers all over the world are taking part.

The effort began Monday.
The John Hancock Center says in a news release that Chicago's reputation as an international city mandates a contribution to the effort for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan.
"Chicago is a truly international city and I think the people who live and visit here really do care deeply when such a humanitarian crisis happens anywhere around the world," John Hancock Observatory general manager Daniel Thomas said in the release. "Hopefully this will be a very visual call to action."
Also participating are the Empire State Building in New York; the CN Tower in Toronto; the Menara KL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the North Tower in Seoul, South Korea; the Olympic Tower in Montreal; the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand; the Space Needle in Seattle; and the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, Hampshire, U.K.
The John Hancock suggests visiting the Consulate General of Japan in New York to donate to Japan relief efforts.
