OAK LAWN, Ill. (STMW) - A 52-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday afternoon after he crashed through a vacant storefront window in southwest suburban Oak Lawn, police said.
The Oak Lawn resident was riding a bicycle east on 95th Street when he hit a curb at 1:17 p.m. after crossing LaCrosse Avenue, Oak Lawn police Cmdr. Dennis Doyle said.
After hitting the curb, the man lost control and went through a large storefront window at 4823 W. 95th St., Doyle said. The window at the former Miss Fantasia Boutique was about 7-feet tall and sat atop about four or five rows of bricks.
The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Michael Racky -- suffered lacerations and was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Doyle said.
Racky, of Oak Lawn, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:54 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
There was no evidence excessive speed played a role in the crash, and no vehicles were involved.
