Best Places For Organic Produce In Chicago

Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the world for food, and that's not just because of the plethora of restaurants. It's also about the quality of the ingredients, from the freshest produce to the best baked bread. If you're looking for some organic food items, Chicagoans have more than their choice of places to shop, from grocery stores and markets to community supported agriculture (CSA) farms. Here's five of the best options in and around the city.

Green Grocer
1402 W. Grand Ave.
Chicago, IL 60642
(312) 624-9508
green-grocer-chicago.myshopify.com

Originally opened in 2008, this Noble Square grocery shop makes shopping for organic produce (and locally sourced meat and bread) a breeze all year round. The intimate space is stocked full of seasonal wares, and often plenty of nutritious greens. The shop works with a variety of farmers in the Midwest to provide the variety of items that they do. As a full service shop, you can also get shelf stable items, like pasta, too. They also offer sustainably-raised meat shares, as well as produce shares -- just stop in and pick up your box of goodies!

Amish & Healthy Foods
1025 N. Western Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622
(773) 278-1717
amishhealthyfoods.com

For organic, fresh and hard-to-find foods, head to this West Town grocery store. With many of their items sourced from Amish farms in Indiana, you'll be getting quality products with only the best ingredients. One of the most popular items that you'll find here? Some of the best duck eggs in the city. Pair the quality products with reasonable prices, and this store is a must-stop for your organic grocery shopping.

Green City Market
South End of Lincoln Park
1817 N. Clark St.
Chicago, IL 60614
(773) 880-1266

With an outdoor market from May to October (and an indoor market in the colder months), Green City Market is one of the biggest farmer's markets in the city. Peruse the many stalls on the south part of Lincoln Park, meet the farmers and artisans and choose from an immense variety of produce and locally made products -- including cheese, soups and fresh pasta. As you shop, don't be surprised to see some Chicago chefs, as many of the top restaurants shop here, too. The market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
