Berwyn Man Charged With Fatal Little Village Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 33-year-old Berwyn man has been ordered held without bond for the fatal shooting of a man in the Little Village neighborhood last weekend.
Nicholas Hernandez was charged with one count of first degree murder for the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Juan Hernandez. He was ordered held without bond at a hearing Sunday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
About 4 a.m. last Sunday, April 1, officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 2600 block of South Tripp Avenue found a man in a front yard there -- shot and lying in the grass, police said.
The victim, Juan Hernandez, was just down the street from his home in the 2800 block of South Tripp Avenue when he was shot in the upper shoulder.
Witnesses told police they saw someone step out of what appeared to be a dark SUV, open fire on the man, get back into the SUV and flee, Perez said. Witnesses on the scene also told police that the victim and the shooter may have had a prior altercation at a nearby restaurant.
Hernandez was dead on the scene, the medical examiner's office said.
Nicholas Hernandez, 33, of the 6900 block of W. 29th Street in Berwyn, was charged with one count of first degree murder in connection to the shooting, police said Sunday.
Bond was denied on Sunday and Hernandez is scheduled to be back in court Monday at 26th and California.
