(CBS) Their baseball team has caught fire, but their pet presidential candidate is an embarrassing, expensive flop.
Wisconsin governor Scott Walker was the chosen one of the Ricketts family, his super PAC having received $5 million in contributions from them, according to a report Tuesday from Politico.
The story details the death-spiral of Walker's campaign and what the Cubs' owners were preparing to do in the coming days in an attempt to rescue his operation. Called "Walker's biggest political patrons," Todd Ricketts and family were planning to host both a fundraiser in New York later this week and a special gathering of top donors at Wrigley Field on Oct. 2. The report quotes a Walker advisor who says, "The Wrigley Field thing was going to be awesome. This guy busted his ass for Scott Walker."
Now Walker has busted out, and the Wrigley Field thing is still awesome for other reasons.
There's still a Ricketts-backed candidate still in the race. Laura Ricketts is the Chair of the Board of LPAC, the Lesbian Political Action Committee dedicated to electing "candidates who champion LGBTQ rights, women's equality and social justice." Her group has endorsed Hillary Clinton.
