Benson Suspended By NFL
(CBS) The trouble keeps coming for Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson
The ex-Bears running back was hit with a three-game suspension from the NFL, though he will be allowed to play Sunday vs. the 49ers, pending his appeal that will be heard Tuesday, Yahoo! Sports first reported.
After agreeing to plea deals to settle two misdemeanor assault cases, Benson was sentenced to 20 days in a Texas jail last month. He ultimately served just five days because of good behavior.
Drafted No. 4 overall by the Bears in 2005, Benson's career has been marred by inconsistency on the field and legal trouble off the field. The Bears eventually released Benson in 2008 after he was arrested twice in a five-week span for alcohol-related incidents.
