Booze Ban At Benedictine University
(CBS) -- Students at Benedictine University in west suburban Lisle have until Friday night to comply with a new rule: no alcohol in residence halls.
Students caught with alcohol in campus housing will be sanctioned, a college official tells Newsradio WBBM.
"They will lose their residency rights and require removal from university housing," says Marco Masini, associate vice president for student life.
He says the new rule is in response to several campus incidents over the years of students abusing alcohol, harming themselves and others and damaging college property.
"All campuses deal with it," Masini says.
Of-age students can still drink alcohol at the Coal Bin on-campus restaurant and university-authorized events such as tail-gating.
The mandate comes just days after law enforcement officials said they won't press charges in an alleged sexual assault on campus.
