Late Mundelein Teacher Remembered With Cookbook, Scholarship
(CBS) -- Some Mundelein High School graduates may be adding new dishes to their Thanksgiving dinner, from a cookbook honoring a beloved teacher who passed away two months ago.
Friends of Jerri Craven put together the nearly 300-page cookbook following the Mundelein teacher's death in September at the age of 55.
Sara Jump took the popular class, simply called "Foods," in 2014.
Jump describes Craven as more than a teacher.
"I loved Mrs. Craven. She was like everybody's mom," Jump says.
Craven taught juniors and seniors how to cook sloppy Joes, Mississippi mud pie and stuffed shells, among other things.
Jump says many of those recipes stayed with her and her classmates.
While some might buy the cookbook just a memento for a favorite teacher, Jump says she definitely plans to use it.
Proceeds from the $10 cookbooks will go to a scholarship set up in Craven's name.
