Bedroom Fire Makes NW Suburban Home Uninhabitable
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (STMW) - A northwest suburban ranch-style home sustained heavy smoke and some fire damage in a blaze Sunday afternoon.
No one was home at the one-story house at 1159 Leicester Rd. in Elk Grove Village when the fire started about 12:15 p.m., but the homeowner's daughter, who lives across the street, noticed the fire, according to Elk Grove Village Fire Dept. Acting Battalion Chief Sharp.
It only took firefighters about five to 10 minutes to get the fire, which originated in a front bedroom, extinguished, Sharp said, but the bedroom area did sustain fire damage and there was "heavy smoke damage" to the rest of the house.
The cause of the fire was unknown as of late Sunday afternoon. Fire personnel remained on the scene for at least an hour, though.
The home had to be boarded up, all utilities and even water service shut off, and the family will not be able to return for the time-being, Sharp said.
No one was injured in the fire, he said.
