Beckham Using 2010 Struggles To Help Him In 2011
CHICAGO (WSCR) It's safe to say that the two seasons after Gordon Beckham's great rookie year (.270 BA / 14 HR / 63 RBI) haven't gone the way the second baseman wanted them to go. However, he's using his slow start in 2010 to help him turn around his 2011 season.
"When you look back, and at the end of almost June last year I was still like struggling in a really bad way," Beckham said on the Danny Mac Show. "I just kind of figured 'it's going to turn around, I'm going to be OK.'"
After the first three months of the 2010 season, Beckham was hitting .209, over the last two months (he had only 32 at-bats in September due to an injury) he had a .331 batting average.

"This year, I kind of had that in my back pocket," he added, "to know that I'm going to be alright and it was just a matter of time before I started swinging it a little better."
He started the 2011 season (.194 BA in April) worse then he started the 2010 season (.235 BA in April), but he's turned his season around much faster than he did last year. Beckham's average dropped 76 points from April to May in 2010, but increased 109 points over that same stretch in 2011.
"I've always played better in the summer," Beckham said. "So I'm just excited that summer has finally come."
