Bears WR Eric Weems Accepts Pay Cut
By Adam Hoge-
(CBS) — It appears Bears special teamer Eric Weems did accept a pay cut after all.
According to NFLPA records, Weems' base salary is now $730,000, which is the veteran minimum for a player with his accrued years of experience.
Weems was set to make a base salary of $1 million in 2014 before the pay cut.
His prorated signing bonus of $500,000 from the 3-year, $4.24 million contract Weems signed in 2012 will still count against the cap, but it's unclear if his scheduled $100,000 workout bonus is still in the contract. If it is, his cap hit will be $1.33 million instead of the previously scheduled $1.6 million.
Essentially the Bears saved $270,000 in cap space and can keep Weems around to compete for a job. If they decide to cut him before the start of the regular season, they would save another $830,000.
