Bears WR Domenik Hixon Tears ACL In OTAs

By Adam Hoge-

(CBS) -- Domenik Hixon's time with the Bears might be over after just one official practice.

The wide receiver limped off the practice field at Tuesday's OTA practice and later revealed on Facebook that he tore his ACL.

"I tore my ACL today for the 3rd time today!" Hixon posted. "I'm disappointed that I won't be playing for a bears team that has the players and coaches to WIN the Super Bowl. I thank God for letting me live my dream of playing in the NFL for 8 years plus. It has truly been FUN! ‪#‎blessed‬ ‪#‎lovethisgame‬"

Hixon suffered the injury while running a route in Tuesday's practice. He was the intended receiver on a pass from Jay Cutler on the play, but he fell to the ground after breaking toward the sideline, and the pass fell incomplete. Hixon was hunched over on the ground but got up and walked off the field on his own power as trainers escorted him back to the locker room.

The 29-year-old wide receiver was entering his ninth NFL season and first with the Bears after signing a one-year contract with the team in March.

Hixon was expected to compete with Marquess Wilson for the No. 3 receiver job and also be in the mix for return duties. He wasn't a lock to make the team out of training camp, but general manager Phil Emery has been trying to add more competition at all positions, so Hixon's injury is a loss for the Bears from a competition standpoint. It further stresses the need for Wilson to take a step forward in his second NFL season and seize the No. 3 job behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.

Josh Morgan, Josh Bellamy, Terrence Tolliver, Chris Williams and Eric Weems are the other receivers currently on the Bears' 90-man roster.
