Durkin's Breakdown: S Brock Vereen
Vereen is 5-foot-11 1/2 and 199 pounds and plays a position the Bears have a serious need at, so he'll have a chance to compete for early playing time. Vereen played both safety positions at Minnesota, but many view his best fit at free safety.
Vereen ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds at the NFL Combine, which was the second-fastest time for any safety.
Vereen was a first-team all-Big Ten selection as a senior, recording 59 tackles, 41 solo. He started all 13 games at free safety last fall.
