Bears Trade Former First Round Pick Gabe Carimi To Buccaneers
(CBS) The Bears traded former promising first round draft pick Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The deal is contingent on Carimi passing a physical and the Bears are expected to receive a draft pick in return.
Carimi was former general manager Jerry Angelo's last first round draft pick and his career in a Bears uniform never got going after he dislocated his knee in Week 2 of his rookie season in 2011. He returned to start 10 games at right tackle and three games at right guard in 2012, but was never fully healthy and struggled.
Carimi opted to not to attend the team's OTAs this offseason, which signaled a likely end to his time with the Bears. Instead, he opted to train in Arizona with trainer LeCharles Bentley.
Tampa Bay is a natural destination for Carimi as the Buccaneers' offensive line coach is Bob Bostad, who was Carimi's offensive line coach at Wisconsin.
