Bears Sign Spencer; Kreutz Era Ends
(CBS) The Bears have agreed to a two-year deal with center Chris Spencer and will not bring 13-year veteran Olin Kreutz back.
The Bears confirmed Sunday that they had agreed to terms with Spencer and head coach Lovie Smith said the team was parting ways with Kreutz.
"This is a new year and and we're going in this direction and we feel good about it," Smith said about losing Kreutz.
The Bears wanted Kreutz back and they offered him a contract, but the center did not like the offer. The Bears gave Kreutz an ultimatum Saturday and moved onto Spencer Sunday.
Spencer is in his seventh season out of the University of Mississippi. He started 70 of 80 games with the Seattle Seahawks in his first six NFL seasons.
