Bears sign QB Todd Collins to a one-year contract
Today the Bears have confirmed the signing of QB Todd Collins to a reported one-year contract. The journeyman QB has played for three teams in his career since being drafted 45th overall in 1995.
While playing for the Bills, Chiefs and Redskins, Collins has comprised career numbers of 4,479 passing yards, 56.6 completion percentage (381 of 674) and thrown for 22 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
Last week Collins turned down an initial contract offer from the team over a reported $150,000 of guaranteed money that the QB was requesting. With Collins now signed it appears as if there will be more competition to be Jay Cutler's backup. When Caleb Hanie returns from injury there will be four QBs vying, potentially, for only one roster spot if the Bears choose not to carry a 3rd string QB on the roster.
