Bears Quarterback Brian Hoyer Suffers Broken Left Arm
By Chris Emma--
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS) -- Bears guard Kyle Long looked sick to his stomach after his team's 26-10 loss to the Packers on Thursday.
Long is dealing with a shoulder injury, but that was hardly a concern after quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a broken arm. It was Long who went to help Hoyer up in the second quarter, but the quarterback wasn't getting up.
"I knew right away there was something wrong," Long said.
Hoyer was diagnosed with a broken arm quickly. Third-string quarterback Matt Barkley came into the game to replace Hoyer and finished 6-of-15 for 81 yards and two interceptions.
"I know I'm better than that," Barkley said after the game.
Bears coach John Fox couldn't say whether Jay Cutler will be ready to return for the team's Week 8 contest against the Vikings, though he acknowledged that Cutler is "closer" to returning. The Bears now face a lengthy layoff before the Monday night contest, which will help them heal several injuries.
Long was held out for the remainder of the game as a precaution to protect his shoulder injury, which has hampered him all season. The Bears finished the game with two backup guards replacing a pair of Pro Bowl players.
"My arm's f—ed up," Long said. "Tough spot to be in."
Moving forward, the Bears will try to find some semblance of health. That starts at the quarterback position, which is now desperate for the return of Cutler.
At 1-6, the Bears' struggles can't afford any more injuries.
