Bears Offense Finally Coming Together In Week 11
CHICAGO (CBS) - It might be week 11 but the Bears offense is finally starting to come together. They've shown a much more balanced attack, and Jay Cutler has been ad-libbing a bit more, bringing a new element to Mike Martz's scheme. CBS 2's Megan Mawicke reports.
"Guys are protecting up front. It's opening up lanes and I'm going to take off and try to make something happen through the ground, or out of the pocket and throw it," said Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
Cutler hit nine different receivers against the Vikings and they converted 11 third downs. They consciously are trying to get more guys involved.
"It's hard on defenses. They don't know who to key on, especially on third down," said Cutler. "That's when we see some exotic coverages, double-teaming some guys, bracketing some guys. But if we keep moving the ball around to different guys, it will be hard to key on some guys."
Cutler has only been sacked twice the last two games, thanks to the O-line's improved blocking.
"I'll be very calm if they keep protecting like this and they give me time to move around and make plays," said Cutler. "It makes all the difference in the world."
"We're all executing better," said Bears center Olin Kreutz. "From an O-line perspective, we're blocking better, and Jay can execute what he needs to do."
So we'll see if Cutler executes. He said he feels pretty good physically because he wasn't hit much Sunday, but we all know Cutler is anything but prime time under the lights; and Lovie's teams haven't done so well on short weeks.
