Bears' O-Line Improved Through loss
The Bears' offensive line was blitzed heavily in the second half of the loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. That heavy blitzing, along with the playoff atmosphere in Green Bay was a big help for the young o-line.
"That defensive coordinator threw everything he had at us," Bears' center, Olin Kreutz said. "Every blitz he had in his book came at us in the second half. And that's the kind of experience we couldn't have got just practicing last week."
There was some talk, both before and after the game, that Lovie Smith should have rested his players to avoid any injuries. But Lovie took a risk, and thought the extra playing time against a quality opponent would help his team.
While the blitzing may have made some nervous that Jay Cutler would be injured, the risk was worth the reward.
"We needed something like that," Kreutz said of the blitzing. "We had some communication problems, which I always say start with me. I have to communicate all the calls to everybody so everybody knows who they have. And I just learned a lot on how to communicate to certain guys. So we can take a lot from that game."
If the Bears aren't able to learn what they needed to from the Packers' loss it could be a rough game for Cutler. Along with game intensity, blitzes usually get dialed up a few notches in the postseason.
