Bears Notes: Raiola Suspended For Packers Game

(CBS) The NFL disagreed with Lions center Dominic Raiola insisting that his stomp of Bears defensive tackle Ego Ferguson's leg was "totally unintentional," and suspended him without pay for this Sunday's NFC North title game against the Green Bay Packers.
Raiola is expected to appeal the suspension tomorrow per a report from NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport.
Prior to the suspension being announced, Chicago coach Marc Trestman addressed the situation during his press conference, noting that the team had turned the play into the league for review.
"We've got plenty of people in place that are going to evaluate that play from all angles, intent, all the different camera angles, and they'll make the right decision," Trestman correctly predicted.
Tresman reacts to Gould's comments
Earlier today during his weekly appearance on the Spiegel and Mannelly Show, Bears kicker Robbie Gould offered some honest words about the current state of affairs at Halas Hall.
One of the topics was to find out what the message was to the team when Trestman announced his decision to bench quarterback Jay Cutler
"I honestly don't even know what the message is, to be honest with you," Gould said. "I just think it's been a long season. (Trestman started Clausen) to provide a spark for the team, is what he told us, and I wish Jay was out there playing."
Trestman said he hadn't heard Gould's comments, but offered this response.
"The change was made because I thought we needed to get better play out of the quarterback, and we weren't getting it," Trestman said. "I was very specific about that last week, so what I've always talked to our players about is keeping those kinds of comments in-house, where we can talk about them in-house."
Considering the Aaron Kromer leak, apparently the advice Trestman offers about keeping things "in-house" only applies to players.
Young will have surgery on torn Achilles
Trestman confirmed that defensive end Willie Young suffered a torn left Achilles and will have surgery. A timetable for Young's recovery hasn't been set, but Achilles injuries are typically require longer-term recovery schedules.
Not only will Young's productivity be missed on the field, he will be missed in the locker room as well.
"That's a tough one," Trestman said of Young's injury. "He has kind of been an inspirational leader. You guys know him in the locker room. He's a charismatic guy. He keeps people up. He's fun to be around. He's a guy who is always up and around the building and has played well and gotten better throughout the season. He'll be missed on Sunday certainly. He'll have a healing process to go on with Achilles. But I'm sure he'll be back ready to go next time around."
