Bears Move Forward With Jimmy Clausen At QB, While Alshon Jeffery's Status Is Uncertain
By Chris Emma—
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) – The Bears' preparation for the Seahawks continued Thursday once again without quarterback Jay Cutler and receiver Alshon Jeffery, who are both sidelined with hamstring injuries.
With Cutler sidelined, the Bears are continuing to ready backup Jimmy Clausen for Sunday's contest at Seattle.
"It's a good challenge," Clausen said of his second start with the Bears. "It's going to be a fun time on Sunday. Got to go out, execute the game plan and just have fun with the whole thing."
When Cutler suffered his hamstring strain during the second quarter of Sunday's loss to Arizona, Clausen came in and went 14-of-23 for 121 yards and an interception. In his career, he's 1-10 as a starter.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the Bears have confidence in Clausen.
"His intelligence is off the charts, his attention to detail," offensive coordinator Adam Gase said of Clausen. "He's done a really good job of making sure he's on the same page as other guys when he goes in there."
Gase didn't disclose how his offense will be different under Clausen's leadership, but he added that the schemes are "fluid" and can be adjusted.
The Bears also practiced on Thursday with receiver Eddie Royal in a limited role due to a hip and back injury, leaving uncertainty to his status for Sunday.
Kickofff in Seattle is set for 3:25 CT at CenturyLink Field.
