Bears' Marshall Won't Be Charged In Alleged Assault: Attorney
CHICAGO (CBS) – Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall won't face criminal charges in connection with allegations he struck a woman at a New York nightclub in March, the athlete's attorney says.
Word of the accusation came shortly after Marshall was acquired by Chicago from the Miami Dolphins. The Bears said they knew about the incident but went ahead a trade to acquire the wide receiver.
A 24-year-old woman claimed Marshall hit her outside a Manhattan nightclub.
Marshall and his attorney, Harvey Steinberg, denied the allegations.
Steinberg had said Marshall and his wife had gone to a local club after serving as the keynote speaker at a charitable event in New York, and a fight broke out that had nothing to do with Marshall or his friends.
"While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury," Steinberg said in the statement. "While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries."
