Bears Make Minor Roster Moves
(CBS) The Bears have waived reserve safety Ahmad Dixon and also signed receiver/returner Marc Mariani to a two-year contract, they announced Tuesday afternoon.
Mariani could be in the mix to be the punt or kick returner after the recent release of receiver/returner Santonio Holmes. Currently, Chris Williams is Chicago's returner.
The 27-year-old Mariani was originally selected by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2010 draft, and he earned a Pro Bowl bid following the 2010 season in which he averaged 25.5 yards per kickoff return and 12.2 yards per punt return. He played in all 16 games for Tennessee in 2010 and 2011, but he didn't appear in a game in 2012 or 2013.
Mariani played his college football at Montana.
Dixon had appeared in five games for the Bears this season, recording four special teams tackles and a fumble recovery.
