Bears' Last-Ditch Play Falls Short In Loss To Packers; Vikings Victory Then Kicks Bears Out Of Playoffs
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS/AP) -- It was too little too late for the Bears as they lost to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, and that also goes for the season.
The Bears were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday after they lost to the Packers 21-13, and after the Minnesota Vikings went on to beat the San Diego Chargers 39-10.
The Vikings remain wild card contenders.
Akiem Hicks returned from the injured reserve on Sunday, but he had to have his elbow checked in the medical tent.
Meanwhile, a controversial call gave the Packers a good field position early on. Starting QB Aaron Rodgers hit wide receiver Davante Adams for a 29-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead.
The Pack continued to build on it. Aaron Jones had back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter, bringing the Packers' lead to 21-3.
Mitchell Trubisky found Anthony Miller for a touchdown, and the Bears cut the lead to 21-13. Miller and Allen Robinson were both over 100 yards receiving.
Trubisky overall was a mixed bag on Sunday. He completed his first five pass attempts for the Bears (7-7) but for only 18 yards.
The Bears' offense opened the game with three straight punts and a turnover on downs. Trubisky finished 28 of 53 for 321 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
The Bears' final wild play could be described as a schoolyard lateral play. Trubisky had some moves as the Bears got the ball up to the 7.
But Jesper Horsted didn't see a wide-open Robinson. They could have had a touchdown in the closing play, but no such luck.
The Bears lost 21-13. This is the 11th time in the last 13 years that they have missed the playoffs.
