Bears' Forte 'Mad' About Being Voted NFL's 91st-Best Player
(CBS) NFL.com has rolled out its "Top 100 Players of 2014" as voted on by other players, and Bears running back Matt Forte has checked in at No. 91 on the list -- much to his chagrin.
"It's obvious you guys had the Packers fans make the list," Forte said with a smile in an interview posted on NFL.com. "That's why … I'm No. 91. I mean, this would have been cool if I was the first running back taken off the board in the draft six years ago. But this is terrible. This is awful.
"This list is not a list of stats. It's more about popularity maybe. I don't know."
Also ranked in the 90s were the likes of Chargers safety Eric Weddle, Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, Broncos guard Louis Vasquez and Panthers center Ryan Kalil.
Forte has plenty to point to in stating his case. He's amassed at least 1,400 yards from scrimmage in each of his first six seasons in the NFL, the third-longest streak to start a career. And 2013 was his best season, as he was a centerpiece of a high-octane Bears offense in rushing for 1,339 yards and catching 74 passes for 594 yards.
Forte was also informed that eight running backs will be unveiled higher on the list.
"This is ridiculous," Forte said. "My daughter is 1. She just started walking. She could be No. 91 on the list. This is crazy."
Forte admitted Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles, LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch had cases to be ranked higher than him, as he said that quartet and himself are at a similar talent and production level.
But he wasn't buying anyone else -- such as the Packers' Eddie Lacy, who the hosts hinted will be ranked above him.
"I'm already mad," Forte said.
