Bears Draft Gabe Carimi With 29th Overall Pick
CHICAGO (CBS) With the 29th overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected offensive tackle Gabe Carimi from the University of Wisconsin.
Carimi was named the 2010 Outland Trophy winner as well as the 2010 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year.
The 6'7" 314-pound, Cottage Grove, WI native was considered by many to be among the top offensive tackles in the draft.
Carimi started 49 games over four years at Wisconsin, where he took over for former first-round draft pick Joe Thomas.
The Bears offensive line allowed a league-high 56 sacks last season.
Carimi and the rest of the Wisconsin line paved the way for a rushing attack that came up 4 yards short of producing three 1,000-yard rushers last season. The four-time Big Ten all-academic pick will graduate in May with a degree in civil engineering.
