BCS Schedule Contingent On NFL Labor Dispute
NEW ORLEANS (CBS) -- A published report says the dates for the BCS Bowl games in January of next year are up in the air, contingent on when the labor dispute at the NFL ends.
Sports Illustrated reports ESPN has not locked in dates for four of the five premier college football games, including the BCS National Championship Game. It is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 9, but cold be moved to Jan. 7 or 10, and the Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls are also up in the air, Sports Illustrated said.
The bowl games could be moved from their tentative dates if the NFL has to cancel early-season games due to the ongoing labor dispute, and reschedule them for January, the magazine reported.
Only the Rose Bowl has a firm date, for Jan. 2, Sports Illustrated reported.
The Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls are tentatively set for Jan. 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
Earlier this week, Minneapolis U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson ordered an end to the NFL player lockout, saying she was swayed by the players' argument that the NFL's first work stoppage since 1987 is hurting their careers. But the dispute between players and team owners drags on.
