Bat Tests Positive For Rabies In Will County
(CBS) – A Wilmington resident who came in contact with a rabid bat earlier this week has been urged to get vaccinated.
Will County Health Department officials say the Wilmington resident found a bat on a property in the 23000 block of Highway 113 on Monday and attempted to "provide it with a drink of water."
The bat later tested positive for rabies. Authorities have strongly recommended residents on the property and their pets get anti-rabies shots.
Rabies is potentially fatal. In Illinois, bats are the principal rabies threat.
