Baseball's Union Wants To Start New CBA Talks
The NBA held pro-active labor discussions during the weekend's All-Star game festivities. And it appears as if baseball is looking for an even more pro-active approach.
Baseball union head Michael Weiner wants talks about a new collective bargaining agreement to be held before the season begins.
Weiner says the union is discussing the possibility of having a few meetings during spring training. One would be in Florida, another in Arizona. The current agreement expires in December.
Weiner began his tour of spring training sites at the St. Louis Cardinals' workout facility Monday, meeting with players for about 90 minutes. He also spoke with Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, who said last week that first baseman Albert Pujols was getting pressure from the union to "set the bar" with his next contract.
Weiner says his talk with La Russa went amicably.
