Baseball's Minimum Salary Gets Raised

(WSCR) - The MLB has the highest average salary in history and now the minimum salary for both major league and some minor league players is going up. The White Sox already made a big dent in their payroll signing Adam Dunn and re-signing Paul Konerko. The Cubs are also ranked the fifth highest salary.

NEW YORK -- The lowest-paid players in the major leagues are getting a raise.

The minimum salary is rising by $14,000 to $414,000, the commissioner's office said Wednesday.

The minimum minor-league salary for players on 40-man rosters for at least the second year or with at least one day of major league service will increase from $65,000 to $67,300.

Baseball's collective bargaining agreement called for the minimum to rise at the same rate as the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index-Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers from November 2008 through November 2010.
